Simon Starling is well known for making work which examines the energy expelled in producing the work itself.  As an ‘amateur adventurer’, he explores the labour of transportation, taking himself on DIY expeditions, learning the appropriate skills along the way.  In his piece Carbon (Penderson) he adapts two design-classic bicycles into the duel use of chainsaw powered bikes, and survival kit.  The survival kit consists of two stools, a tent and a cooking spit, and chainsaws (which can then be used to cut the wood needed to cook while they're not powering the bikes).
